Affordable art is a practical idea before it is a market label. Can someone begin collecting original contemporary art without entering the world of major auctions? Yes, when prices are legible and the work retains everything that makes it art: research, material, history, documentation and a relationship that can last.
A price threshold does not define cultural value. It defines access. A work on paper, an editioned photograph or a painting in a smaller format can open a collection with the same seriousness with which a larger work can extend it.
An international movement, not a niche
Affordable Art Fair has built an international circuit around a clear principle: art available to buy, visible prices and an environment that also welcomes first-time buyers. Thresholds vary by city, but transparency is part of the experience. Some editions also identify works below 500 or 1,000 in the local currency.
In 2026, VOLTA introduced The 5,000 Edit, a selection of works priced at or below CHF 5,000, conceived as an entry point for new collectors and support for artists at a pivotal stage. Artsy also hosts under-$5,000 selections spanning painting, prints, photography and collage.
The numbers show that this is a substantial segment. In its Contemporary Art Market Report 2024, Artprice recorded more than 108,000 contemporary lots sold below $5,000 over twelve months. Auction data differs from direct studio sales, but it reveals the international scale of accessible collecting.
Art fairs: encountering price inside an experience
Fairs matter because they bring artwork, gallery, artist and audience into the same space. They make economic thresholds visible and comparable. Roma Arte in Nuvola connects the market with culture and institutions inside Fuksas’s Nuvola; BOOMing Contemporary Art Show questions the idea of the emerging artist as someone whose work still needs to be brought into view.

I took part in Arte in Nuvola with Supermartek Gallery and, in 2023, in BOOMing in Bologna during the week of Arte Fiera and ART CITY Bologna. Both experiences reinforced how much it matters to encounter an artwork away from the screen: to understand its scale, approach its surface and discover whether it continues to call us after the first glance.

Acquistare Arte: looking before price
The independent editorial journal Acquistare Arte has published a profile of my work, reading painting and photography together from Gli Strappi to the Cycle of Rooms and Tales of Humans in a Landscape. Its central insight is that the seductive, protected surface of an image becomes vulnerable in my practice.
I recognise that reading. Professional photography taught me from within how a perfect image is produced; painting allows me to interrupt it. The editorial describes painting as acting upon that perfection, wounding it and turning it into material experience.
The article connects this website, independent sources, available works and individual series. Above all, it identifies an essential principle for art under €5,000: availability and price open the door, but an acquisition should also be considered through medium, provenance, condition, certificate and the work’s relationship to the wider practice.
Three practical thresholds for beginning
The studio catalogue now offers three live paths. Art under €1,000 includes unique Gli Strappi works on paper and photographs with confirmed prices. Art under €2,000 expands the choice across unique works, editions and formats. The contemporary art under €5,000 selection also includes larger works, paintings and photographic projects.
Each record displays the price when confirmed and the current availability. The studio’s artist coefficient is 2; it remains a pricing parameter, while the effective price is the amount published for the individual work. Certificate, signature, medium, any edition, condition and delivery are confirmed before acquisition.
