Ten years after its first edition in 2016, Punk Aristocracy returns as an exhibition. The project meets punk’s fiftieth anniversary and reopens the question that has run through it from the beginning: what happens to rebellion when power absorbs it, turns it into style and puts it back into circulation as luxury?

The manifesto
PUNK ARISTOCRACY
Power, sometimes, is more punk than punk itself.
It appropriates everything without asking permission.
And before anything else, it appropriates rebellion.
It wears it and makes it chic.
It turns it into style and strips it of spontaneity.
It makes it out of fashion and starts again.Season after season.
It forces conformity—or rather, “recommends” it as the only possible path.
While razing every alternative to the ground.
But here, in my project, punk performs one more pirouette.
Trapped in the game of “style” and “fashion”, which has deprived revolt of its intrinsic truth, our punk kids sit down at the table of the grand gala dinner.
A dinner sold off as revolution.
They dine with power, flirt with it, learn its gestures.
Then they overturn the table.
They elevate punk into an aristocratic gesture.
They wear the noble suit.
They drink from the source of beauty.Because when everything has become style, revolution in beauty is a noble gesture.
An absolute, majestic, unique beauty.
A beauty that asks for no approval.
And does not want to be for everyone.Survivors of the immense catastrophe of passing time and of power, which digests everything and expels everything.
They are the last punks on Earth.
They are the Punk Aristocrats.
From 2016 to 2026
In 2016, the first exhibition at Rome’s Takeaway Gallery explored the encounter between the street and aristocracy, between the violence of the sign and the seduction of the image. la Repubblica presented the project at the time through a selection of photographs.
The new Cosenza exhibition is not an exercise in nostalgia. It places those images in front of 2026, a time when every gesture can become a trend almost as soon as it is born. Following the story published in August — Punk turns fifty. Punk Aristocracy turns ten — the return now has a place and a date.
